In The Name Of Allah,
Most Gracious, Most Merciful

SHUKR: BEING THANKFUL TO ALLAH (SWT)‏

Allah is very Merciful. And there are degrees of His Mercy. One degree is every creation gets some of His Mercy irrespective of whether that creation believes in Allah or not. For example, every creation in the world gets his sustenance, happiness via family, money etc. Another degree is for believers where every action when done for the sake of Allah and in compliance with the Quran and Sunnah is rewarded many folds. The highest degree of his mercy is reserved for the day of Judgement. The prophet (PBUH) said:

“WHEN ALLAH CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH, HE CREATED ONE HUNDRED MERCIES, EACH ONE CAN COVER WHAT IS BETWEEN THE EARTH AND THE HEAVEN. HE ALLOCATED TO THE EARTH ONLY ONE, WITH WHICH THE MOTHER IS COMPASSIONATE WITH HER CHILD; THE BEAST AND THE BIRD ARE COMPASSIONATE WITH THEIR BABIES. WHEN THE DAY OF JUDGMENT COMES, ALLAH WILL COMPLETE HIS MERCY.”

[Muslim]

Alhamdulillah when we look around our lives, we are filled with the mercies of Allah (SWT). And we should be thankful for these mercies, that

  • We are born into a Muslim family and eventually seeing death as a Muslim, InshaAllah

  • We are blessed with the Quran and the Sunnah for guidance

  • We are blessed with the love and kindness of our parents

  • We are tested in our faiths everyday and it increases as we pass these tests and struggles

  • We are blessed to get halal and wholesome food without the need to travel and hardship

  • We are blessed with families and friends who love us and support us during pressing times

  • We are blessed with a vibrant and charitable Muslim community

  • We are blessed with Islamic Full-time and Sunday Schools

  • We are living in a place where we can experience all four seasons

  • We being healthy enough to perform Hajj and Umrah at least once in our life

  • We have locally available programs on Tafsir and Seerah to enhance our understanding of deen and increase our commitment to faith

  • …………

……..We have the infinite blessings and mercy, even though we don’t deserve them.

“BUT IF YOU COUNT THE FAVORS OF ALLAH, NEVER WILL YOU BE ABLE TO NUMBER THEM.”

[Surah Ibrahim: 34]

May Allah give us the ability to recognize the favors of Allah (SWT) on us. And may we be thankful to him everyday and not just on certain days or times of the year, Ameen!
